1980s: It's all about style
For Cathy this is a happy time. She turns Steve's bachelor pad into a home they both can enjoy living in.

She doesn't quite understand why Steve is insisting on having the TV downstairs.
"It's so ugly, can't we have it upstairs in your office instead?"
"The TV stays, and my office stays as it is, until we need the space for a nursery. Anything else is up to you."
Cathy thinks he's a bit unreasonable, but agrees all the same. After all, he should have equal influence over their home.
"So when do you think would be the right time for that nursery?"
"Whenever you feel ready," Steve says and right then and there Caty could live with a hundred TVs in the living room. It does also help that she's been given her own walk in closet to tie her over until she can decorate that nursery.

Beth, on her hand, is settling into her new home in Creek Lake, where the autumn have started to change the color of the leaves.

It's a small house, a bit cramped, but then Beth doesn't need all that much space for just herself. It's fast and easy to unpack her things and settle in.

Perhaps the one thing that annoys her, is the fact that her office needs to be in the garage, so she can't have her car there. Then again, it is a small garage anyway, so it would be a tight squeeze with the laundry being out here too.

The next morning, she's more than eager to get started. She starts by gulping down a cup of coffee to get her energy up.

Then head straight for her new workplace at NASA's training facilities. The place is huge and very impressive.

Inside, there is a large reception area, where she reports to as she arrives, before changing and heading into training.

Today's focus is on the physical elements, with time in the gym and pool to test her physical strengh, her stamina and her overall fitness.

But while the bulk of the day is spent focusing on her fitness, she still has time to check out the massive library and office space upstairs. And try some of the science equipment in the lab. This won't be her main work place, but as an engineer she has access to at least parts of it.

When returning home she cooks for herself, and eats in front of the TV in her bedroom, and while her sister would think her house dated and unfancy, she's quite content.

Cathy and Beth aren't the only ones moving, so are Carl and Sydney as Sydney is realising a life long dream of a house in the have also moved, into a newly built house up at the Pinnacles. Not caring one way or another what the house looks like, Carl has given Sydney free rein over the decor, and she has taken advice from an interior decorator.
"I want modern, cutting edge, European inspired," she says, and the decorator delivers. The house is bright, modern, and filled with influences from the Memphis group who have been making a mark on interior design in Milano during the last few years. Every piece in the house is selected with care and precision and bought with money they do not yet have but that Sidney insist is necessary. "You have to have a home that sends the right signals to get the right kind of jobs," she says.

The work area of the house is more traditional, but still more than a bit extravagant. Here Carl has a gym of his own, and Sydney a place for photo shoots and acting practise.

For Carl it's easy to tell himself that this is also the wrong time to bring up the past. After all, Sydney is so busy, with the house, with her career, with their new life... it would be unfair to tell her now.
Not that Sydney isn't noticing that something is going on. Suddenly Carl consumes every article, every TV-special, about the kids left behind in Vietnam. He, who never talks about the war, and who wouldn't even acknowledge the Vietnam memorial when it was put up two years earlier. She says nothing, thinking that this is his way of dealing with his memories that only became worse with the US invasion of Grenada, and leaves him to it. On her own, she starts looking into charity organisations. Perhaps, when he's ready, it's something that could help him heal.
Back in Creek Lake, Beth is getting ready for day two of astronaut training, and with it she finally gets to use the library.

She also gets to see the training pods for the shuttle training, where people like Sally Ride trained before going off with the shuttle.

During lunch she gets to know some of her co-workers a bit better as she beats him at chess:

And after lunch she finally gets to put her hands, and her tools, to the space shuttle.

By the time she gets home she's exhausted, but also proud as she's landed herself a promotion. One step closer to being on the shuttle rather than building it. She can hardly wait.
