1940s: University Life, a surprise marriage and a new horse on the way

Image
As much as Thomas wishes it to be, studying doesn't come as natural to him as it once did. In spite of his efforts, his grades cannot match those of his sister. At the end of the semester he'd gathered enough points for a B+. At least the grades in autonomy are holding up the rest. He cannot entirely understand his poor results. Is it his focus? the way he sometimes just can't keep his mind on track? He knows it's not the amount of studying. While he has been reading, doing papers and planning his presentations, Grace seems to be the life of the party. She even started dating one of his dorm mates, a good guy, so Thomas doesn't mind. But he doesn't understand her high marks. "It's easier for girls," one of his dorm mates says. "They get better grades just showing up." But somehow Thomas doesn't want to believe that. And it is true that Grace has started dating. David is handsome, good, fun to be around, and he makes her relax. Is it s...

It's a sunny spring day when Thomas comes to the stable to talk to Anna, telling her that he now knows what he needs to do. "I want to help people. I want to save lives." "Saving horses won't cut it?" Anna asks, but Thomas is certain. As much as he'll miss the horses, he needs to find his own path in life. He wants to become a doctor. "Nonsense, I've been putting it away for you. See it backed up salary for helping with the ranch." "You let me live here for free. I don't..." He stops. He can see on Anna's face that she's not changing his mind, and he really does need the money. "Thank you!" And so Thomas travels across the country to Britechester, arriving in time for a new seme...

In Britechester, Grace is working hard on her studies, having spent too much of the first semester having fun At the commons she's working on a presentation she needs to hold. But she also find some time for a friendly game of juice pong. A girl has to have fun too, right? Back at the dorm the girls have all pitched in to buy a radio, meaning everyone gathers in the common room at night to listen. It's a struggle on which channel to listen to at times, but in the end, some dance, others read, some chat. Grace mostly tries to keep up with the never ending homework. Mornings and evenings the girls try to eat together at the dorm, with so much course work, it's all they can do to make sure they have time to really socialise. Around the dinner table everything from annoying professors, suitable bachelors and world events such as the start of the Nuremburg trials, the Chinese civil war that just started or that women were just allowed to vote in France. All of those things inter...
